Back from Staycation

I had a wonderful relaxing staycation, with many naps and lots of time to think. The thinking led me to reevaluate everything I've been doing over the last 10 years or so. I've decided to make a few changes that already have increased my sense of well being and given me a feeling of ownership of my life and art.

First thing I decided was to take down my old www.wowmelody.com website, (as of August 1st) since it hasn't been updated in like seven years, and most of the stuff is sold anyway, so why keep it? Then I had to consider what would replace it, and I decided on having a brand new blog with the auspicious title Melody Johnson. The url is www.mixitupmel.blogspot.com because it will record a variety of new pursuits, which may or may not be quite different from what I have done here.

I am keeping Fibermania up for the duration because so much information is posted here, and I may need to refer to things in the future.

I hope you'll consider visiting me at my new blog, and sign up for email notification, as I doubt I will be posting as often. One of the things I realized was that most nights I go to bed worrying about what I will blog the next day. It resulted in quick-hurry-up art, and not enough trying out of new ideas. Now I want to take my time and be more thoughtful about the art I make.

  1. So now you'll have 2 blogs to worry about? You cant just combine them into this one? or the new one? In would be nice to see ALL your pursuits in one place. Good luck!

  2. Glad you had time to rest and do a mental review... I think it's good to stand back from time to time, and see if you're doing what you want to do or just staying in a nice, comfy rut! Sounds like you are ready to try some new things, and I look forward to what comes of it! Meanwhile, I do hope you keep Fibermania, because it is such a wealth of great inspiration and info! Unless of course you were planning to compile all that great stuff into a book or video? Hmmmm!!!!

  3. Sorry to hear you won't be posting as often, but completely understand. Blogging takes us a lot of time and energy that could be used to do what you love to do and we love to see what you do. You have a great, creative, colorful spirit. Been a fan of yours since I took a class from you at PIQF eons ago. I stress with posting only once a week. Looking forward to seeing what you will be getting into next.

  4. I've enjoyed your blog for many years. Thank you for sharing your creative process. I really enjoy the garden photos! Your spring arrives earlier than mine, and seeing your garden get going in the spring is so refreshing while I'm suffering through another round of snow.

See you at the new blog!

P.S. I use the lazy dyer now and then, I hope this blog stays up for a while.

Melody, I will miss you blogging so often, but I know it's difficult to some up with a post every day. One thing i miss about your blog is you haven't posting about what the dogs are up to and putting their pictures on the blog. Another thing I miss is seeing what you are doing inside and outside of your house and your cooking. I love to see your before and after pictures and. I always enjoy all of your blog, but those are the things I miss. I'm going to start following you at your new blog. Thank you for all the fun reading and suggestions.

  8. I know what you mean about thinking ahead of blog posts. It's good that you have taken the time to think and see what will work for you artistically.
    I'll be following.

Hi, Cheryl here, I'm excited to see what new directions your art will take and will definitely sign up for updates. I'm glad you're taking the space to be more intentional and I know what you produce will be well worth seeing. But can I just hope that occasionally you will let us know how Dave and the dawgs are too, I've been following your blog for so long now I'd really miss having news of them.

  14. I know exactly what you are going through. Pretty soon you are doing things not for yourself necessarily, but for the pleasure of your readers. I think, as we age, we need to self reflect and sometimes go in different directions for our own well being instead of doing something others think you should do. I, personally, I have packed away all my sewing for now and am strictly reading and drawing envelopes for my sweet little granddaughter and great niece and am finding great pleasure in each…….oh, that and naps daily. Life is grand!

  15. I'm going to head over to your new blog too. I realized something about blogging when I got sick with Lyme's disease. It should be a pleasure, not pressure!

  16. Thank you so much for picking my card as one your winners from the teddies challenge, it is such an honour.
Thank you for all your hard work in making the challenge so successful, it's a shame that the challenge is ending but I can totally understand your reasons and wish you all the best.

  17. Hi Melody,
as there were no updates on Dave, the garden or doggies on your new website I wondered if you might be doing them back on here? I really enjoy seeing them all and miss all your family news. I hope, if you don't want to put them on your new site, you might consider occasionally posting all your non-artistic news on here maybe? I've been following you for so many years now it seems strange not to know all that's going on - maybe I'm just too nosey!!! ;)
Anyway, hope all's well with you and yours xxxxx

  18. Hi Melody,

I have really enjoyed your blog and have enjoyed the way you kept it so fresh for so long. So many blogs descend into boring narcissistic page after page....you never did that! I understand that your new blog is more an online store rather than a blog and wish you well, but am selfish enough to wish you would pay us a visit into your interesting life now and again! I miss the knitting and the talk about methods, projects, and your muse as well as peeks into your daily life.
